All about the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic offers an increasingly rare opportunity
for real estate investment. Reckoned to be one of the last
great investment opportunities in the Caribbean, the government
has purposely set out to attract upmarket tourism by offering
great tax incentives as well as spending millions implementing
a modern infrastructure. The Caribbean Highway now under
construction, will provide easy access along the coast.
Located
in the West Indies, the Dominican Republic occupies the
eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola, which it
shares with Haiti.
Whether you're looking to party, relax or explore, the
Dominican Republic has a lot to offer. The list of things
to do is simply endless. Most of it's tourist destinations
offer an incredible variety of restaurants and nightlife
with the larger Dominican cities hosting different events
and festivals all year round. You can shop for souvenirs,
participate in action sports, take sight-seeing tours or
even get married!
The
brilliant white-sand beaches, impressive mountain ranges
veined with spectacular rivers and waterfalls and the saltwater
lakes teeming with exotic wildlife are just part of the
appeal of this magnificent country.
Buying property in the Dominican Republic has never been
easier. In 1998, President Leonel Fernandez presented a
decree eliminating restrictions to real estate ownership
by foreigners, thus recognising that the former law was
a barrier for foreign investment. Prior to this new decree,
a real estate purchase by a foreigner was a lengthy procedure,
had to be processed by local attorneys and required special
authorisation. Under the new legislations, real estate investors
will enjoy the same rights as Dominicans.
